About Me

Hi, I’m Joy, a birth doula in Cedar Rapids Iowa, and ​I am so glad that you are here! If you are reading this because you are anticipating the arrival of your baby, congratulations! There is no earthly joy quite like the joy of giving birth. I know this full well, because not only have I attended over 20 births in hospital rooms homes around the Cedar Rapids area, I have also given birth to my own three beautiful babies. My heart still jumps up to my throat when I watch a mother look into the eyes of their baby for the first time. There is so much pride in that moment, because it requires a carefully planned, meticulously thought-out, and lovingly pondered journey.

As a DONA-certified Birth Doula, I walk alongside women who are making that journey, ensuring that they are empowered, encouraged, and enlightened every step of the way. Every mother’s journey is different, and I have the experience and knowledge to assist no matter where your road may lead. In the past five years as a doula, I have been a part of medication-free natural births, VBACs, C-Sections and inductions. The births I have attended have varied in length from 30 minutes to 30 hours. I have walked this journey with friends who have become clients, and clients who have become friends, and every single time I learn something new that I am able to bring on the next journey I am invited to embark upon.
